What’s the difference between Counselling and Psychotherapy?
The main difference between these two modes of therapy is the length of time one engages in treatment and the depth one goes into to understand their issues. Counselling is often more solution-focused and better suited to short-term work, where psychotherapy allows for a deeper dive into what drives and compels us to certain behaviours and relationships.
Maybe you find you’re always the one giving support without it being returned? Perhaps you want to understand why you’re so hard on yourself? One-to-one therapy provides a confidential space for you to express and explore the issues you find distressing and work on the underlying causes of your problems. Together we can gain a clearer perspective on what’s keeping you stuck and how to manage anxious or depressive thoughts.
Depending on your needs, we use interventions to help explore your thoughts and feelings. This may include tools from CBT, DBT, role play, creative imagination, visualisation, breath-work and dream work to gain clarity and understanding on where you are and where you’d like to be. Where suitable, I offer EMDR for trauma, PTSD, depression and anxiety.
Additionally, we can engage in walking and talking therapy. This is often useful for when a person is feeling overwhelmed or anxious and can benefit from the grounding effects of being in nature.
